The Way of County Life

The country morning dawns beautiful and bright
It’s just you and the land in the early light
The call of a rooster, a lowing of cows
As you go to the barn to retrieve the plows
Then into the rich dark fields you go
To ready them for when it’s time to sow
Back to the house for a quick bite to eat
Where the wife has prepared a little treat
Then into the fields for another round
As you prepare the ever-producing ground
When work is done and the golden sun is fading
You can relax with some neighborly gossip trading
Then into the house to wash up for dinner
A table full of food that’s sure to be a winner
It’s just you and your family and your bounteous land
Some music and dance with an eye on the minute hand
Then a kiss goodnight from your kids and your wife
This is truly the way of country life
